I got to rub elbows with some serious new media newmunati last Thursday for the Felix TV shoot at the Gawker party. It’s been funny seeing myself pop up in the background of all these shots, hard at work while everyone else is partying.
For the last 7 months or so, I was working the assignment desk at ABC News Radio. I’m glad to have had the experience and thankful for the friends I made there. Now, I’m working as an associate producer with a new video team at Reuters. It’s exciting stuff and it’s really great to be back shooting, editing and producing video.
Here’s some of the projects I’ve worked on this month:
Back in May, I went out to Los Angeles for a couple days to shoot some behind the scenes footage at the ESPN College Gameday 2011 commercial shoots. It was a great crew and I had a great time being a part of it. The behind-the-scenes spot went live today, featuring footage shot by yours truly.
One of the stories I found when I was down in Guatemala last fall was the plight of indigenous community radio stations. In Guatemala, radio is an incredibly important medium. Much of the population is illiterate or lacks access to print or digital media, so radio is the only way to get information. Also, Guatemala still has a huge indigenous population, so radio serves a huge role in preserving the culture and language of all the individual communities spread throughout the country. You can read my report in this month’s Columbia Journalism Review here.
I live with a real creative bunch. I can come downstairs at any time of day and somebody will be playing music, sketching away or cooking up a fantastic meal.
Good buddy Andrew tied the knot. We invaded Torch Lake the weekend before to give him a proper send-off. Nothin too crazy. Swimming, Cheeseburgers and more swimming. I’ll leave it at that.
